I switched from QWERTY to Colemak in 2015. Initially it was a very frustrating transition. I was typing around 90 words per minute (wpm) in QWERTY, then I suddenly could only type 30 wpm. Transitioning took me around 6 months. The strategies that worked best for me were: playing typing games and instant messaging people. Don’t look at your keyboard. Print out the Colemak layout below and put it on the wall. Reference it when you can’t remember where the commas are. Move slowly.
Find Brands You Love Start by finding brands and accounts you love and get ideas from them on what you like. I follow many accounts from mommy bloggers, travelers, designers, and artists. Each of these accounts has given me inspiration, because they all say something about my personality and what I’m drawn to. Make a […]
In the SSL era, bots and hackers are on the rise. Never have we seen so much potential for damage so quickly. Many think cost effective solutions elude most of us because of our limited budget or our technical knowledge. CloudFlare is the solution to the problem just described. This post is based on a presentation I recently attended, where 15-year cyber-security expert, Jim Walker (hackrepair.com), openly vouched for CloudFlare as a free security measure. This article summarizes Jim’s presentation.
In February of 2016, Joseph Abraham won an award from MorningPrint.com. The Techie Design founder was directly involved with Savage Cat Food® at the time. The content below has been updated and differs slightly from the original (for the original go to morningprint.com). While Joseph is a founder at Savage Cat Food®, he does not currently represent Savage Cat Food®. Techie Design was established after the time this interview was initially published. The article is still relevant, revealing Joseph’s design philosophy, which has been the foundation of Techie Design’s mission. Enjoy the article!
Damien, originally from Chicago, moved to San Diego where he completed his doctorate. In his early 30s he founded the company Incremental Fitness. Damien met Joseph Abraham (Founder of Techie Design) in 2012. They became friends and eventually Joseph helped Damien with his website and social media, outlets which provide the bulk of Damien’s business. He did not participate in social media prior to the start of Incremental Fitness.
If you are interested in website development, creating production-quality photos is key for saving time and money. The alternative would be hiring and paying an outside professional photographer. Not only is hiring one expensive, they generally avoid these “small jobs” from small to mid-sized businesses. Instead we will share tools that place readers on the […]
Like it or not Pokemon Go is here to stay. The new mobile game is taking the world by storm, becoming the most actively used mobile app over the course of a week and crushing giants like: Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat for daily active users. Niantic, the company that created Pokemon Go is just getting […]
Tomo, whom is Davinci’s owner, is a master ‘Instagrammer’ and attracter of followers. Her Instagram account (@davinci_mainecoon) recently passed 100k in followers with no previous form of fame to boost off of. The current most followedInstagram account, @taylorswift, could have developed a following regardless of content and strategy. Tomo was kind enough to share a […]
Foreward: Why Themify? As a web developer dealing with the constant landscape changes on the internet, one can find it difficult to keep up. For years I’ve been checking into Web Designer Wall (webdesignerwall.com). The author, Nick La (@NickLa) does an amazing job at getting a jump on trends and adapting to them before they […]
